I love trying to make things better. I see social problems and then something else seemingly unrelated; my brain just puts the two together.
It's so much fun! I am a mother and wife and I have learnt an awful about public health and education.
In the 90's, I set up an award-winning organisation in London, UK, that levelled the playing field for children from minority ethnic groups and economically disadvantaged families by providing high quality affordable supplementary education and childcare.
In Sierra Leone, I have spearheaded (as part of my job role) the development of a social franchise initiative that trains non-literate women as Maternal Health Promoters. These amazing women provide poor rural communities with access to affordable health care products, services, and information. The sale of products provides their livelihood.
More recently, I have been involved in setting up Institute for Development, provides high quality qualitative research training and consultancy to NGOs, Govt and Businesses in Sierra Leone. My hope is that this work will support decision-makers in Government, NGOs and Business to understand what works.
